The Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) Dr. Halilu Ahmad Shaba has reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to providing assistance to other sectors of the economy in terms of geospatial capacity development, pilot projects development and new technologies on issues germane to National Development.
The DG, represented by the Acting Director, Information Communications Technology of the Agency Dr. John Nwagwu, made the statement during the opening ceremony of the workshop for the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Dr. Shaba while appreciating the participants for choosing to collaborate with NASRDA on the capacity building program said, the agency, which is a hub for geo-spatial data science, has all the resources needed to facilitate the training.
He stressed the need for continuous capacity development, stating that it is key to sustainable National development.
Dr. Shaba while declaring the workshop open emphasized that it is important for participants to seek training and retraining as knowledge gets obsolete after a period of time.
According to him, spatial data Science training is key to several development that is occurring all around the globe hence, the need to go beyond the rudiments of geospatial training but explore more in-depth courses which are available at NASRDA’s Institute of Space Science and Engineering.
He called on the participants to also encourage their colleagues to look into more regular modules of training that will be instrumental in improving their capacity to deliver on their job.
Speaking at the event, the leader of the participating group, Controller of Corrections (CC), Dr. Joy Edward expressed optimism towards the outcome of the workshop, saying that NASRDA is one of the best resource centres of training in the country and therefore looks forward to a robust impartation of knowledge.
She added that NASRDA is known for it’s vast knowledge in ICT, which is critical to her organisation’s work and promised to cascade the knowledge to other colleagues, back at the NCS.
The Controller of Corrections lauded NASRDA for its high level of discipline and timeliness, adding that past engagements with the agency has revealed the Agency’s excellent attitude to work and reliability.
