DEPARTMENT OF PROCUREMENT

 

The Procurement Department came about as a result of the signing into law of the Public Procurement Act 2007, which vested on to the new Department the procurement of goods and services in Ministries, Extra Ministerial Departments and Agencies of Government for both Capital and Recurrent Expenditures.

The Department which formerly took off in the Agency in April 2008, processed for the approval of the Procurement Planning Committee the procurement of goods and services within the threshold of N700,000.00 to below N20 million. It also processed for approval of the Ministry’s Procurement Planning Committee projects of N20 million to below N50 million. While those of N50 million and above are forwarded to the Office of the Bureau of Public Procurement for Certification and approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

 

 

 

FUNCTIONS

 

    The Procurement Department has the following mandate:-

      • Preparing the needs assessment and evaluation of the Agency.
      • Identifying the goods, works and services that may be required by the Agency.
      • Carrying appropriate market survey of items or services to be procured.
      • Advertise and solicit for bids for goods and services.
      • Receive, evaluate and make selection of the bids received in adherence to the Procurement Act.
      • Obtain approval of the approving authority before making award.
      • Monitoring of all procurements.
      • Stock receipts and documentation.
      • Stock receipt and issuance
      • Carry-out other functions that may be assigned to the Department by the Director General/Chief Executive.
