DEPARTMENT OF POLICY PLANNING AND RESEARCH

In realization of the critical role Space Science and Technology would play in national development, the Federal Government in 2001, approved the National Space Policy and Programmes.

The policy document is to serve as a Road Map for evolving “critical mass” of Nigerians  in the areas of space science and technology, attainment of technological, industrial, commercial and socio- economic self-reliance for overall  sustainable national development.

In addition, the Space policy when implemented will contribute to the realization of the Federal Governments’ noble economic reforms as enunciated in the Seven Points Agenda of the present Administration.

However, policy implementation in the developing countries such as Nigeria has most times being derailed consequent upon unforeseen uncertainties (for example the current global economic melt-down). The Policy, planning and Research Department is expected to provide the strategies required to ensure:

    • Consistency and continuity in the policy thrust of the Agency in particular and the nation in general, and its implementation especially in the area of projects execution.
    • That plans are well articulated, properly coordinated and harmonized to meet set objectives.
