Outer Space is unique in many respects. Human activities and interactions in space calls for formulation of rules to facilitate international relations in Outer Space. Consequently the United Nations has developed five general multilateral treaties which govern human activities in space. The continuous increase in space activities has led to a greater number of state giving priority to the development of various form of cooperation and guiding rules on how to collaborate in space.

International cooperation in space is very important and complex. It also requires expertise to analyze specific issues involved in cooperation and to negotiate terms of cooperation.

The department of International cooperation will thus provide the technical expertise needed to handle issues of international cooperation space law and general legal service.

• The department will provide expert advice, oversight and support to other NASRDA Centres, in addition, to providing legal services for projects managed at both headquarters and Activity Centres.
• Promote international cooperation with other space organizations.
• Promote participation in space activities of the United Nations,International organizations and non-governmental organizations.
• The department will provide functional leadership regarding international cooperation issues related to all aspects of NASRDA activities.
